About Canada Post?

Canada Post Corporation (Société canadienne des postes), trading as Canada Post (Postes Canada), is a Crown corporation which functions as the primary postal operator in Canada. Originally known as Royal Mail Canada (the operating name of the Post Office Department of the Canadian government founded in 1867, French: Courrier Royal Canada), rebranding was done to the "Canada Post" name in the late 1960s, even though it had not yet been separated from the government. On October 16, 1981, the Canada Post Corporation Act came into effect. This abolished the Post Office Department and created the present-day Crown corporation which provides postal service.

Why partner with Canada Post?

Canada Post is the #1 courier in Canada servicing every address in populated areas and roads less traveled. They are the only courier company that has access to delivery mailboxes (P.O. Boxes)  which prevent theft, ensure delivery when no one is available and are convenient to grab the mail from when you are ready.

Members are encouraged to use ShipTime to process their Canada Post shipments and take advantage of all of the features ShipTime has to offer - at absolutely no cost.

This also means that members will be able to use Canada Post rates for their e-Commerce shipments and displaying live rates on their stores while taking advantage of ShipTime’s branded tracking pages and discounted ShipTime Insurance.

What is different about Canada Post BYOR vs. other courier BYOR that we have?

ShipTime has fully partnered with and integrated Canada Post’s technology to become a true partner in delivering a consolidation and technology platform to their members. For the first time, we allow our members to sign up for a new account with the courier (Canada Post) through our platform. We call this ‘Advanced BYOR’.

We also are able to have members connect their existing Canada Post account to ShipTime with no support needed. This means - no API keys, no reaching out to the courier and no reaching out to us.

How do Canada Post rates show up vs. ShipTime Rates?

When rating, like the other customer courier accounts, their own rates are denoted by the orange magnifying glass.

Canada Post Pickup Charges

Canada Post does not pick up packages for free - they charge a pickup fee per pickup (not per package). Canada Post is the first courier on ShipTime that has a pickup fee. V3 of ShipTime was designed forward looking with the separate ‘Pickup & Drop off’ step, with price confirmation for this reason.

When a member chooses Canada Post, the first shipment they create for a given day will display the pickup fee on the ‘Pickup & Drop’ off step during shipment creation.

How does billing work?

Since the Canada Post account is the member’s account, it works the same way as our other BYOR couriers - all billing for the shipment charges are handled directly by Canada Post. This means that all adjustments and adjustment disputes will be handled by Canada Post.

ShipTime continues to offer ShipTime insurance for all BYOR shipments. If a member insures their shipment, ShipTime will bill the member directly for the insurance charges. Claims for these shipments will be done through ShipTime.

Support Provided

Since the Canada Post account is the member’s account, it works the same way as our other BYOR couriers - all support for the shipment is handled directly by Canada Post. This includes complaints or inquiries on missed pickups, address corrections, service guarantees etc.

ShipTime remains available to provide support for the platform and any technical issues while placing shipments.
